  • How do transport companies protect the environment?

Trucking companies are increasingly focused on minimizing their impact on the environment. The transportation industry has a significant impact on the environment because trucks consume a significant amount of fuel and produce harmful emissions. That's why these companies are taking steps to reduce their carbon footprint. At RRtrans we are aware of this problem and, guided by our mission to protect the natural environment, we take actions to minimize our impact on the atmosphere and reduce harmful gas emissions. Actions aimed at protecting the environment 1. Technological solutions One significant way our trucking company addresses environmental issues is by implementing new technologies. • Palette – the base of safe truck transport

When we think of road transport, what we primarily see is a truck loaded with pallets. In this article, we answer the question of what pallets are, why we use them and where the idea of using pallets in road transport came from. Palette History It is human nature to strive to make life and work easier. This also applies to transport and loading. And so, more than a hundred years ago, the Pennsylvania Railways' first electrically powered truck was born in America. That had little in common with today's forklifts. It transported goods on platforms. But it proved that a machine with a small electric motor can make work a lot easier, and that's how people came up with the idea of a forklift. It wasn't long before experiments began with lifting systems and panels that made it possible to move the load from place to place. However, the real breakthrough was forced by World War II and the needs of the army. The massive use of wooden platforms to transport food and weapons began. Immediately after the war, numerous inventions were patented that improved transport and loading. Among other things, a pallet with fork access and the first "hand pallet truck". Modern pallets in road transport By definition, a pallet is an elevated platform for transporting and storing goods, and pallet transport simply means the transport of goods placed on a pallet. Modern pallets differ in size, material and number of entries. Based on the manufacturing material, we distinguish 3 basic types: Wooden pallets Plastic pallets Metal pallets Wooden pallets Wood is the most popular material for making pallets. Wooden pallets are widely used in truck road transport. These pallets can come in different sizes. The structure of a wooden pallet looks different in different countries of the world. The most popular pallet standards include: EPAL open pallets - Euro pallets, closed pallets, stringer pallets and carrier pallets Open EPAL pallet - Euro pallet Euro pallet is an open pallet with four entrances. It is widely used in international transport in Europe (outside the UK). To mark a pallet with the EPAL mark, it must comply with European standard EN 13698-1 and UIC code 435. The most popular dimensions of euro pallets are: EUR6 - 800 × 600 mm (half pallet) EUR1 - 800 × 1200 mm (standard pallet) EUR2 - 1200 × 1000 mm (industrial pallet) 3 EUR - 1000 x 1200mm How do you recognize a Euro pallet? Euro pallets have several distinctive markings that make them easier to identify: EPAL" logo in the left corner Manufacturer's company code on center foot of pallet the "EUR" logo in the right corner LPR and CHEP closed palette LPR and CHEP pallets are closed pallets in four directions. They are mainly used for transport in Great Britain. They consist of blocks connected with boards on all four sides and in the middle. These palettes are usually blue or red and labeled LPR or CHEP. Due to their characteristic construction, they can only be operated by certain lifting vehicles. String Palette Stringer pallets are four-way pallets closed at the bottom. They are mainly used in North America, Africa and Asia. These pallets have a slot for forks and lateral reinforcement of the structure. Carrier Pallet Carrier pallets are dual-entry pallets, so handling them requires a special type of low-profile forklift. Like Stringer pallets, these are mainly used in North America, Asia and Africa. Plastic pallets Plastic pallets have a similar structure to wooden pallets. Due to the price and durability, they are not widely used in transportation, but they are widely used in the food industry to store food. Due to the easy cleaning, they meet high hygiene standards. Metal pallets The most expensive and durable pallets are metal pallets. They are suitable for transporting heavy loads and are therefore mainly used in the automotive and metal industries. The dimensions of metal pallets usually correspond to the dimensions of wooden pallets. Advantages of pallet transport With pallets you can safely transport both small and large loads. They make it easier to group smaller items. The loading area of the vehicle can be fully utilized by using pallets. The capacity of a standard truck trailer is 34 pallets. All this makes pallets versatile in international trucking. • Truck or TIR?

It is common to call trucks as TIR? Where did this term come from and is it correct? To answer these questions, we must first explain what a truck is and what the abbreviation TIR stands for. Trucking and trucks A heavy goods vehicle, also called a "truck", is a motor vehicle designed to transport heavy loads. In the European Union, since 2007, heavy goods vehicles are marked with the letter "N". European type-approval means that a certificate issued in one Member State is valid throughout the Community. In Poland, approval is issued by the Transport Director of Technical Inspection (TDT). Due to the load capacity, vehicles in the "N" category are divided into: Category N1: Vehicles of category N with a maximum mass not exceeding 3.5 tonnes. Category N2: Vehicles of category N with a maximum mass exceeding 3.5 tonnes but not exceeding 12 tonnes. Category N3: Vehicles of category N with a maximum mass exceeding 12 tonnes. What's TIR? TIR is an abbreviation of the French "Transport International Routier" or International Road Transport. This is an international customs convention of November 14, 1975 on the carriage of goods by heavy goods vehicles in international transport, allowing for the simplification of procedures at border crossings and customs offices during road transport. The TIR Convention is implemented in 58 countries in Europe, North Africa, Canada, the USA and Asia. Thanks to the TIR agreement, when crossing the border at customs offices (parties to the convention), no additional securities or guarantees, customs and tax duties are collected. When does the TIR Convention apply? According to the provisions of the TIR Convention, the procedure can only be used for international road transport. However, the TIR Convention is not applicable to transport within the European Union. However, it is necessary when the customs border is crossed. For example, when transporting between the European Union and the United Kingdom, or when the transport route passes through a non-EU country. Why are trucks called TIR? Under the TIR Convention, it is required that a truck and a combination of vehicles transporting goods under the cover of a TIR carnet must bear a blue plate with the abbreviation TIR in white on the front and back. This marking meant that heavy goods vehicles began to be colloquially called trucks. • Tautliner - tarpaulin trailer for special tasks

Tautliner - otherwise a semi-trailer with a tarpaulin is one of the most popular semi-trailers. Due to its construction, it is often used in truck transport. Saddle curtainsiders get their name from the curtains that cover their sides - they can be freely moved apart like curtains in a window. The structure of the tarpaulin trailer The construction of the tarpaulin trailer is intended to facilitate the transport and logistics of demanding raw materials. The frame of the trailer is made of high-strength, double-shot-peened steel, which means it can withstand the pressures and overloads that occur. The frame is coated with a polyurethane paint that increases resistance to weather and abrasion. Skeleton construction and sliding tarpaulins ensure easy access. The load can be manipulated from all sides. Access is through the side walls, rear and roof of the trailer. The Tautliner semi-trailer is also designed with the load on the floor in mind, it is made of durable material to withstand tons of pressure and forklift manoeuvres. The head section is also specially reinforced, which is intended to ensure the safety of the driver in the event of sudden braking or a sharp downhill descent. Side curtains are reinforced with slats. Their construction protects the cargo from damage and the negative effects of adverse weather conditions. The side tarpaulins are also reinforced with steel mesh straps and the whole thing is hung on plastic rollers that are suspended from the rail. Types of tarpaulin trailers Curtains are available in standard and mega versions. These versions differ in their dimensions, as the Mega version of the curtainsider has an interior height of up to 3 meters and is perfectly designed for transporting bulky loads. Advantages of a curtainsider saddle The main advantages of tarpaulin trailers are: a reinforced and stable frame construction, a raised roof and a tight sliding tarpaulin. Curtains have many advantages. Thanks to their design, they enable efficient loading and unloading, which is conducive to fast transport. There are three ways to load and unload curtains: Laterally - through sliding curtains, Upper - thanks to the exposed roof Back - through the rear door that opens to the sides allowing loading and unloading from the level of the ramp. A durable, waterproof and tear-resistant tarpaulin is another advantage of the curtain. The construction of the tarpaulin on curtain siders satisfies high safety standards. It protects the load from damage. Security in the curtain Since tauliners have a skeletal structure and the cargo can move freely between empty spaces, it should be secured accordingly beforehand. Several professional solutions are used for this purpose. The transportation of goods in trucks equipped with curtainsider semi-trailers is carried out using security measures such as: safety belts elements designed to tension the belts, called tensioners anti-slip rubber mats stopbar, i.e. an element that prevents the load from tipping over, e.g. on a steep driveway. Tautliners are the future of international trucking Truck transport is a dynamically developing branch of international transport. The flexibility of road transport makes it more popular than rail, sea or air transport. It is independent of the location of ports, airports or railway lines. The use of tarpaulin trailers makes loading and unloading easier and is therefore ideal for transporting large-volume goods. Load securing is also important in international transport. A tarpaulin trailer also works well here. Trucks equipped with such a semi-trailer are also used to transport ADR dangerous goods. • How to safely transport steel?

The transport of steel and other metals and metal products is associated with a high risk of mechanical damage and oxidation of the material under the influence of precipitation and high humidity. These factors cause even metal after processing to deform and rust, which makes it difficult to use it later. Steel has a very high bulk density, which translates into a weight of over 7800 kg in one cubic meter. Such a heavy weight makes the transport of steel often problematic. Moreover, this means that small loads of steel have to be transported using trucks, even if they take up little space. Types of loads Steel is used in various fields of technology. Its most popular application is construction - steel structures. Steel can be used in many other industries such as the production of machinery and tools. Its wide application causes the need to transport both prefabricated and finished products. Steel can be transported in various forms. The most popular loads are: Steel transport in coils Transport of steel in sheets Transportation of steel bars Transport of packed steel semi-finished products Transportation of steel pipes Transport of steel angles Transportation of steel sphere What to consider when transporting steel? The transport of steel is not only the transport of materials from point A to point B. When transporting metals and other loads, the following procedures and requirements should be taken into account: Preparation of the project and transport schedule. Determination of the optimal route and risk analysis. Selection of adapted transport, taking into account the size of the load. Organization of loading and unloading, taking into account the necessary security measures. Comprehensive cargo handling in warehouses Comprehensive customs support and facilitating the passage of customs procedures. Security and location control of cargo during transport using navigation systems. How to ensure cargo safety? Transporting steel presents many challenges that can arise throughout the shipping process. Therefore, to ensure safe trucking, the following factors should be considered: Pay attention to the type of steel being transported - the main factor determining how the steel is transported and secured is the type and shape of the steel. Not every method of securing works with all types of steel, as prefabricated products such as sheet steel require a different approach than securing steel bars or tubes. The weight of the load is also an important factor, as all modes of transport have their own load limits that must be taken into account. Calculating the best route – Efficient route management enables smoother transportation of steel products. It is important to avoid the hazards that may arise along the way. This means choosing a safe route to your destination, avoiding roads that are inaccessible to HGVs, and familiarizing yourself with the regulations and prohibitions of transport in your country, such as the prohibition of transport on Sundays. Use the right protections and equipment – In addition to choosing the right methods and routes of transport, it is equally important to ensure that you use the right protections and equipment when loading, unloading and transporting. Using load-appropriate securing is a measure to be taken to prevent the steel from shifting. For example, coiled steel is transported in trough trailers secured with straps. During the transport of the steel sheet, the packages are strapped and fastened to the vehicle. From top to bottom, the packages are covered with cardboard strips or plastic film to protect them from precipitation, temperature fluctuations and moisture. • Do you need to order truck transport? Everything you need to know about freight exchanges.

What are freight exchanges? The idea of a transport exchange, similar to the one we know today, was born in Europe in the 70s of the twentieth century, when the demand for road transport of goods increased. The transport industry was booming then. The first freight brokerages were established, which used telephone connections to communicate with customers. The customer reported the need for transport by phone, and then the broker made several to a dozen calls to find the right carrier. It was costly and time-consuming. In 1985, the world's first electronic freight exchange based on the Minitel system was established in France. This system was later superseded by the Internet. Nowadays, the freight exchange is a virtual marketplace where shippers and carriers can communicate. Its purpose is to facilitate and accelerate the conclusion of transactions. It helps to find the right carrier and facilitates communication. Using the Internet, you can search for free cargo spaces in real-time or offer a vehicle and conclude an appropriate transport contract. How does the freight exchange work and how to use it? In simple terms, the freight exchange works on the basis of advertisements. A company that needs to purchase transportation services publishes a transportation request with a description of the goods, direction, and route. Sometimes it's also the other way around. It is the carrier who submits the truck as a transport offer and looks for a customer with goods to be transported. So we are dealing with both a vehicle and freight exchange. There are many transport exchanges available on the market, which differ primarily in scope. There are national, regional and international exchanges. Currently, every major freight exchange has its own software or mobile applications. Using freight exchanges usually involves a subscription fee, although there are also those with free access. Freight exchanges charge a commission on the value of a transport order obtained thanks to the service. It is paid for by the carrier. So you should start by choosing a freight exchange and registering on its platform. The largest providers of freight exchanges attach great importance to security, giving access to their systems only to verified entities. Once you have an account on the selected transport exchange, you just need to create an advertisement. Such a transport order should include the type and size of the cargo, as well as the location and date of loading and unloading. We send the finished advertisement to carriers and wait for offers. Transport exchanges are a good place to find a contractor for a single transport as well as to establish long-term cooperation. Before ordering transport, it is worth checking the carrier's profile in which we can find information about licenses or insurance policies. Advantages of using freight exchanges and their additional functions. The main benefit for the carrier is the reduction in the number of journeys without return cargo. Which translates into a lower price of the transport service. It also facilitates the optimal use of cargo space and obtaining additional transport orders on a given route. Freight exchanges are an alternative for smaller companies that do not have their own fleet of trucks. They do not have to cooperate with forwarders and thus save money. It also allows you to find a large number of carriers. Strong competition allows you to find transport at an attractive price. The use of freight exchanges means saving money and time for both parties. The operation of freight exchanges is not limited to searching and advertising vehicles or loads. Major suppliers such as TIMOCOM, Transporeon or offer complex systems that provide many additional solutions and benefits. These include, among others: real-time tracking of vehicles (thanks to this, you can check where the vehicle with the load is at any time) calculation of routes and costs taking into account toll road sections, tonnage or size restrictions and additional costs, such as driver's allowance or tolls a database of verified companies containing profiles with the most important information debt collection services for the financial security of users On which freight exchanges can you find RRtrans? • How to organize the transport of hazardous materials (ADR)?

Dangerous goods are a special type of shipment due to the level of danger during their transport. Transport companies offering services in the field of transporting such cargo must meet and comply with a number of specific requirements resulting from legal regulations. What does the abbreviation ADR stand for? ADR is an acronym for the French "L' Accord européen relatif au transport international des marchandises Dangereuses par Route", which can be translated as the European Agreement concerning the international carriage of dangerous goods by road. This convention was signed in Geneva in 1957. At present, this agreement applies to 50 countries. The agreement contains provisions regulating a wide range of conditions for the carriage of individual hazardous materials in international road transport. What is the transport of dangerous goods? The carriage of dangerous goods by road is defined as any road transport activity performed by a vehicle wholly or in part on public roads, including the operation of loading and unloading, packing and filling, falling within the scope of ADR. The contract on the transport of dangerous goods does not cover transport carried out entirely in a fenced area, inaccessible to third parties. What are dangerous goods? Dangerous goods are materials that pose a risk to health, safety, property or the environment during transport. According to the understanding of the ADR convention, there are 13 classes of dangerous goods, determined according to the dominant risk they pose: Vehicles and packaging used to transport hazardous substances Let's start with the fact that the obligation to choose the method of transporting dangerous cargo rests with the sender. The task of the carrier is only to make sure that this choice is correct and to prepare the means of transport and packaging appropriate for the given class of goods. Hazardous materials can be transported in both closed and open vehicles as long as the safety instructions are followed. The load must be secured so that it does not move during transport - for this purpose, you can use transport straps, anti-slip materials, partitions, adjustable supports, etc. Dangerous goods can be transported in basically three ways: transport of parcels in pieces (transport of parcels in packages, each piece of goods must be individually marked); bulk transport (transport of unpackaged materials, placed in boxes, containers, characterized by a low degree of risk); transport in tankers. Dangerous cargo marking ADR tables All vehicles intended for the transport of hazardous substances should be marked with standardized ADR plates: The ADR plate (orange information plate placed on vehicles carrying dangerous goods) should contain two identification numbers of the transported substance. 1) Danger number - two or three digits in the numerator, 2) Material identification number - four digits in the denominator. Plates with identification numbers should be used for the carriage of dangerous goods in tanks or in bulk. In the case of the transport of dangerous goods in the so-called packages, smooth ADR plates (without identification numbers) should be used. ADR warning labels and stickers The ADR Convention stipulates that all vehicles, containers, tankers or trailers containing hazardous materials should be equipped with appropriate diamond-shaped ADR warning labels with a minimum size of 10 x 10 cm. Markings must correspond to the patterns and comply with the requirements contained in the annexes to the ADR agreement. Stickers should be glued to the substrate in a contrasting color or surrounded by a dotted or continuous line. What requirements should the carrier meet? One of the requirements set out in the ADR Convention is the need to appoint an ADR adviser. Its role is to support the planning and implementation of safe transport of dangerous goods, control of the necessary safety requirements, training of employees who will participate in the transport of dangerous goods, as well as annual reports on the implementation of procedures and safety instructions in the transport of dangerous goods. As mentioned earlier, each driver or other employee involved in the transport of hazardous materials should be trained in ADR procedures. Such a person should receive written instructions from the principal on the proper transport of a given material and strictly comply with them. The employee should also have fire extinguishing equipment for flammable materials and protective clothing. Responsibility for the safety of the transported cargo falls on the carrier, while the labeling of the cargo on the principal. However, it should be remembered that the purpose of the transport of hazardous materials is, above all, trouble-free and safe delivery of the transported substances to the destination. Consequences of wrong or dangerous transport can be life-threatening or even life-threatening. Therefore, both parties should make sure that everything is in order. To ensure that ADR transport runs smoothly, you should also consider the transport route. Hazardous materials should be transported on roads with the best possible surface to minimize the risk of damage to the vehicle or shifting of the load.
